Sheridan County Assessor Paul Fall is alerting residents to changes in the Wyoming statewide homeowner property tax exemption.
Fall is reminding residents that property tax exemptions created by the Wyoming Legislature remain in effect for the 2026 tax year, and some now require homeowner action.
The statewide homeowner exemption, which reduces a qualifying residence’s fair market value by 25 percent up to the first $1 million, was applied automatically in 2025. Beginning this year, however, homeowners must notify the Assessor’s Office that the property is their primary residence to continue receiving the exemption. Fall and the staff in the assessor’s office are actively working to alert homeowners to this change.

Fall said applications for all of the tax programs open on Oct. 1. But the deadline for the 25 percent homeowner exemption is Feb 2.
