Mayor Looking Forward to Completion of Buffalo Wells Project

December 18, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

City of Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader said he is looking forward to the water quality test results as the Buffalo Wells and Transmission System Project nears completion.

Buffalo’s water is primarily taken from Tie Hack Reservoir, but should an event take place that contaminated the water in the reservoir – such as a wildfire – the city had no back-up source.

The Buffalo Wells and Transmission System Project, a city-sized effort to find a reliable secondary water source for the City of Buffalo has been ongoing for approximately seven years.

Schrader said although some tests have been taken, more will follow before the project is officially complete.

On the challenges that faced the city during the project, Mayor Schrader said it’s all part of the process when executing a project of this size but the need was worth the effort.

Through the years the project faced multiple delays and cost adjustments but the Mayor said he is looking forward to the Buffalo Wells and Transmission System Project reaching completion.
