A teen is dead after crashing his pickup truck on a highway east of Sheridan.
According to a Wyoming Highway Patrol preliminary crash summary, sometime around midnight on Friday, July 24th, the unidentified 16-year old male driver was westbound on Wyoming State Highway 336 (aka Wyola Road) at around mile marker 6.6, when he failed to negotiate a slight left curve in the roadway and drove off the road on the north side.
The passenger-side wheels and tires drove on the gravel road edge, before the vehicle struck 3 delineator posts.
The driver then corrected to the left and back onto the roadway, but he ended up overcorrecting and his vehicle went into a passenger-side leading slide and off the south edge of the road, and down an embankment.
The vehicle briefly straightened out at the bottom of the ditch, but then it struck the opposing hillside, went uphill and became airborne, before landing on a large flat area, causing the vehicle to roll and it came to a rest on its roof.
The teen driver was not wearing a seat belt and driver inattention is listed as a contributing factor in the crash.
At the time of the incident, it was the 73rd fatality on a Wyoming highway this year, but that number has since jumped to 76, which is ahead of 72 fatalities at around this time last year.
