While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Game and Fish Department Public Information Specialist Christina Schmidt said with some early archery seasons for pronghorn open Aug. 15, hunting season is here.
Schmidt reminded hunters that if their hunt area has an early archery season and they plan to archery hunt during the designated season, they will need to purchase an early archery permit.

Schmidt also urged hunters to check that their conservation stamp is still valid. Since conservation stamps moved to a 365-day cycle, they are no longer valid for a calendar year, but instead expire one year from the date of purchase. Hunters can find the purchase date in the upper-left corner of their hunting or fishing license. The date has replaced the hard-copy conservation stamp used in the past.
She recommends hunters begin studying areas with public access that they may want to hunt and ensure those areas are legally accessible. Hunters can contact landowners if they have not already secured somewhere to hunt.
Game and Fish does not keep a landowner list. Instead, hunters can visit the Landowner Assistance page on the Game and Fish website under the Public Access tab. Schmidt said the page can change regularly, and recommends checking the page often.
