Students at SCSD#3, Arvada-Clearmont, returned for the 2026-27 school year on August 17. New superintendent Jennifer Strong recently talked about coming to Clearmont, and back to school.
Strong has been in education for 32 years. From 2001-2005, she taught at SCSD#2, and her family has lived in Sheridan for many years. “Sheridan’s always been my home. I’ve lived and taught in Wyoming, and both my boys were born in Sheridan.”
She worked with former Superintendent Charles Auzqui for some years. She said they are still working on the instructional framework that they started together 15 years ago.
Although she is just the interim superintendent, she would like to make the position permanent. She said she knew several of the teachers and staff, and added,
When asked what direction she wants to take A/C School, she had this to say.
She said she is excited to work with Whitney Benefits and Sheridan College as well. There are a lot of growth opportunities here. She said enrollment is up, the end of last year there were 47 students enrolled, and this fall enrollment is up in the low 70s.
Many students are from out of district, parents and students wanting the smaller classes, more individual instruction, and being able to participate on the sports teams and in other activities.
She said that some parents attended the back-to-school BBQ held on August 13 and signed up their youngsters to attend Clearmont school.
She is an advocate of work based learning, and she plans to make sure Clearmont students have those opportunities. She said one class they are offering is a horticulture classes and is hoping to keep the greenhouse going for the students, and raise their own vegetables.

When asked about Back-to-School this year, Strong said,
She talked about the other school districts, and that they all offer something a little bit different, and something for everyone. “I think that is a wonderful partnership.”
One issue that is nationwide, is using cell phones in schools. Strong said,
Last school year several parents expressed concerns about the school library, and when asked how the library was coming along, Strong said.
She added that they are looking into what is a healthy combination between digital research and research in books. She said they plan to work with the board on a three-to-five-year strategic plan to build up the library.
She added that she would be honored if the SCSD#3 board chooses her to be the superintendent. “I am overjoyed to be here.”
