A resolution that would have allowed for a fee of $25 for half-day reservations of existing park shelters within the City of Sheridan failed to pass due to a lack of a motion at Monday night’s City Council meeting. City Parks Superintendent Steve Gage, during a presentation to the Council, said the City typically receives 400 to 450 shelter reservations a year, and proposed that the funds collected from the fees be placed into a restricted account that would have been used for replacement of existing or construction of new park shelters. City Councilor Kristen Jennings voiced her disapproval of the proposed fee.

Residents would still have been able to use picnic shelters within the parks at no cost, but under the failed resolution, if they wanted to reserve a shelter for a particular date and time, there would have been a $25 half-day reservation fee, or $50 for the entire day. If the fee resolution had been approved, it would have gone into effect on January 1 of 2022.
