The Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area at Lake DeSmet, owned and operated by Johnson County, had a busy year, according to County Road & Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer.
Pehringer gave an end-of-the-year report to the county commission at their recent meeting, touching on their tree program which has planted 100 trees there over the last four years, and water wells that have been permitted and are expected to bid in January and be drilled in 2022.
There were two new restrooms built at the site, and another amenity added by a private company to be used by the public, according to Pehringer.
Pehringer said there was nearly $93,000 collected in fees during the summer, and after lodging taxes and sales taxes were removed, the county ended with a net revenue of just over $83,000.
Although user numbers were down slightly this year than last, the higher fees enacted this year meant more revenue produced by the recreation area.
User number percentages for the year were 14.9% from Johnson County, 27.9% from Sheridan County, 11.5% from Campbell County, 6.88% from other counties in the state, and 35.0% from outside of Wyoming.
Commissioner Linda Greenough said the recreation area “had a busy year.”
