Partial Fire Restrictions Lifted by Sheridan County

The Sheridan County Commission has rescinded the partial fire restrictions that were imposed back in June of 2021.

In a release from the county, the commission said that on the recommendation of the Sheridan County Fire Warden and the Fire Chiefs of the Rural Fire Protection Districts, they decided to rescind the restrictions effective immediately.

Although open burning will be allowed in Sheridan County, the public is urged to be very cautious.

Grass and other light fuels can dry quickly if the weather warms up or the winds blow, resulting in a high fire danger.

Residents are asked to notify the Dispatch Center prior to any open burning so the fire department is aware, and to check the weather forecast for warnings.

If windy conditions are expected, avoid burning before and after that time.

Also, they ask residents to have fire tools, water, and a phone readily available; and to not delay calling for help if the burn gets out of hand, as early response can minimize control efforts and potential damage.
