Recently, during their first business meeting for the month of February, the Sheridan City Council approved a salary increase for future city council members.
The council approved the third and final reading of an ordinance to increase the councilor’s salary from $500 a month to $1,000.
According to Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger, it has been two decades since an increase was made to the council salaries.
The increase in salaries will not take effect until after this year’s election. This prevents councils from increasing salaries for sitting members.
During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Bridger told listeners the intention behind the increase.

City Councilman Shawn Day told listeners that the time council needs to perform their various duties and attend committees and meetings requires dedication and commitment, increasing salaries can help bring in more applicants and also help with the time away from businesses and family.
