Council Approves Addendum to Liquor License Resolution and Addresses County Islands

The Sheridan City Council at their regularly scheduled business meeting Monday night, addressed county islands and an addendum to the resolution the Council approved last November that provided the process and procedure for awarding the additional retail liquor license the City received due to a population increase. The issue of county islands, or areas of unincorporated property surrounded by city property, and the problem the islands pose in creating split ballots in the upcoming election, was brought to the City Council’s attention in January by Sheridan County Clerk Eda Schunk Thompson. The Council Monday night approved a motion to authorize staff to begin the process of identifying the issues, needs and steps necessary to annex the properties into the City. The Council also approved an addendum to resolution 40-21 that outlines the process of awarding the retail liquor license the City received due to a population increase reported in the 2020 Census. Councilman Steve Brantz addressed the Council prior to voting on the addendum.

Councilors Clint Beaver and Kristen Jennings voted against the addendum. We’ll have more on the timeline to award the liquor license as well as more from the Council meeting in future stories.
