The Bot Sots Remount Horse Sale

May 17, 2022

The name itself is steeped in history. According to Ike Sankey, (a living legend in the rodeo stock circles), “Bots Sots” is a Native American Crow term generally held to mean “heap good”.

The Bot Sots Remount Horse Sale is happening in Sheridan, beginning on June 3. Events will begin at 3 p.m. with the ‘Heap Good’ Trade Show (which will run for both days) coinciding with the Soft Preview of the horses on June 3, at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. Following the preview, the public is invited to join the consignors at the stables and discuss the horses that will be up for sale.

A pitchfork steak fondue dinner will take place for those who have made reservations.

Sankey and his team take pride in helping even the most inexperienced horseman find the right horse for them. But that doesn’t mean they deal with only first time buyers. According to Sankey, this sale will feature some of the finest animals in the Nation with each horse hand-picked for their safety and category.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sankey told listeners the Bots Sots Remount Horse Sale is a well known sale because staff puts in the work to ensure good horses are selected.

The event will continue beginning at 10 a.m. on June 4, with the Bot Sots Preview, giving potential buyers previews of the horses performing tasks and being ridden at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. At 4 p.m. on June 4, the horses will be taken to the Kendrick Mansion at the Trails End State Historic Park for the Bot Sots Remount Sale, during which time bidding on the horses will begin.
