The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Committee hosted a candidate forum for the primary election candidates on Monday, June 27 at 6 p.m. at the WYO Theater. A good crowd attended the event.

The Monday night forum consisted of city and county candidates, clerk of court, county coroner, county treasurer, county sheriff, country commissioners and Sheridan city council.
The forums provide an opportunity for those running for elected office in the upcoming primary on August 16, to share information about themselves and their platforms.

Anna Bailey of the Chamber moderated the forum, and each candidate had two minutes to introduce themselves, and answer questions provided by the moderator. No questions were allowed from the floor due to time restraints. After the Q&A session, each candidate had two minutes for closing remarks.
Concerns voiced in the question-and-answer session included the climate for small businesses in the city and country, budgets, and questions about crime and incarceration in the county. One issue that many of the candidates spoke about was taxes, mainly property taxes in the city and country, and the need for reasonably priced housing in the area. Many ideas were presented by the candidates as how they would address these issues should they be elected.
Candidates appearing at last night’s forum were, in order of appearance at the forum are as follows: All represented the Republican Party. Clerk of the District Court — Rene Botten and Rachel Borgialli; County Coroner — Thomas L. Bennett and Robert Byrd; County Treasurer — Katie Araas and Kevin Harding; County Sheriff — Levi Dominguez, Brandon Leonard Masters and Roger Miller. Zack McLain could not attend the forum, but sent a statement which Bailey read.
Running for County Commissioners, voters can elect 3, there was Michael R. Arzy, Dennis Fox, Christi Burgess Haswell, Bryan Helferich, Holly Jennings, Nick Siddle, Jason Szewc and Allen J. Thompson.
Running for Sheridan City Council Members, voters can elect 3, there was Clint Beaver, Lynette Cattaneo, Dustin Coryn, Neil Fancher, Aaron C. Linden, Greg Luhman, Andrew Patceg, Terry Weitzel and Jack Wood. Troy Cochran is also running but could not attend.
On June 28, the Candidate Forum will focus on state positions. Candidates confirming attendance and the order of appearance at Tuesday’s forum are as follows: Governor — Brent Bien (R), Mark Gordon (R), Theresa A. Livingston (D), Rex Rammell (R) and Rex Wilde (D); Secretary of State — Mark Armstrong (R), Dan Dockstader (R), Chuck Gray (R) and Tara Nethercott (R); State Treasurer — Curt Meier (R); Superintendent of Public Instruction — Megan Degenfelder (R), Thomas Kelly (R), Sergio A. Maldonado, Sr. (D), Brian Schroeder (R) and Jennifer Zerba (R); State Senator – District 21 — Bo Biteman (R) and Mark Hansen (D); State Representative – District 29 — Gary Miller (R), Ken Pendergraft (R) and Martha J. Wright (D); State Representative – District 40 — Barry Crago (R) and Richard Tass (R); and State Representative – District 51 — Bryan Miller (R) and Cyrus Western (R).
