Due to dry conditions and high fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management is implementing fire restrictions for all BLM-administered lands within Campbell, Crook and Weston Counties.
The restrictions in Campbell County are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 19th and in Crook and Weston Counties on Friday, July 22nd.
Building, maintaining attending or using a fire or campfire is prohibited except within agency-provided fire grates at developed recreation sites, or within fully enclosed stoves with a 1/4 inch spark arrester type screen, or within fully enclosed grills, or in stoves using pressurized liquid of gas.
Smoking is also prohibited except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or in an area that is at least at least 3 feet clear in diameter of flammable materials.
Operating a chainsaw without a spark arrester or a welder is not permitted.
The restrictions are in addition to year round wildfire prevention restrictions on BLM-administered public lands.
Year-long restrictions include using fireworks, discharging a firearm or explosives, burning hazardous or explosive material, and operating an off-road vehicle, unless it has a spark arrester.
Violation of fire prevention orders is punishable by imprisonment of not more than 12 months in jail, a fine of up to $100,000 or both.
Restitution for suppression and damage costs will also be charged to the violator.
