The flood that occurred at Yellowstone National Park in June not only had an effect on visitation numbers for that month but for July as well.
A park spokesperson says there were a little more than 596-thousand recreational visits last month.
That is a 45% drop from July of last year, which saw more than one-million visits, and that ended up being the busiest July on record.
Entry restrictions to the park were lifted on July 2nd, as approximately 93% of the park was opened, however the North and Northeast entrances to the park still remain closed.
There was a 32% increase in visits at the east entrance in July 2022, compared to July 2021, and a 21% increase in visits at the south entrance, while the west entrance experienced a 27% drop.
As of the end of July, there have been more than 1.86 million visits to the park this year.
That’s down about 30% from the end of July last year, and down by about 10-thousand visitors compared to the end of July of 2020, when the COVID pandemic was underway.
