Big Horn Football Prepares For 2022 Thunder Bowl

October 13, 2022

The Big Horn Rams haven’t faced a tough test since their season opening loss vs. Lovell.

On Friday (October 14th), they’ll get that test right where they want it…on their home field.

Since the loss, BH has outscored their last 5 opponents by a combined score of 239-53, which is an average score of about 48-10.

Coach Kirk McLaughlin says it’s been all about having the right players in the right spot on certain plays.

“We’ve just found what works for this group of kids. We found what’s really worked. What we started the season with, with what we thought would work, isn’t exactly the same with what’s working now, so we’ve just done a good job as a staff adjusting, the kids have done a good job getting better at our scheme and executing at a high level.”

As far as how to deal with TR, McLaughlin says the biggest thing is to hang on to the ball, because the Eagles defense leads the state with 22 turnovers.

“They got athletes. They got the ball rolling really well, they got a defense right now that’s forced a lot of turnovers, and they’re going to be ready to play.”

Senior linebacker and receiver Wyatt Brown says Rams remember what happened last year and explains what went wrong with about 1 minute to go in the game.

He adds it was frustrating to lose to TR in more than 1 sport last school year.

“Last year we had a couple of guys, they would try and go make plays and make plays at the wrong time, so they’d just go for the wrong thing, when they should’ve just tried to play it safe almost, so we just made mistakes. We kind of gave them the game last year, so they’re going to have to come and take it this year. We’ve lost to them quite a bit in basketball and football and stuff like that and last year they got us, but this year it’s shaping up to be one of the best games in 2A, and I think we’re going to come out pretty strong and pretty fast and it’ll be a great game for both teams.”

Senior quarterback Cooper Garber says he’s not expecting an easy game from their rivals, and that suits him just fine.

“We know they’re going to be a physical team, we know that they’re going to bring everything that they got. They always play us good, no matter what sport it is, no matter what game it is, they’re going to play Big Horn tough, and we know that, so we’re preparing to have a fight and take it to them.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.

The winning team secures the #1 seed from the 2A East for the playoffs.
