A recent good deed by three Sheridan College bull riders, could support the argument that the world needs more cowboys, and not just in the sense of rodeo and ranching.
Last month, Wyatt Phelps, Brodie Bates and Tipton Wilson were heading to a rodeo in Lamar, Colorado and were traveling by way of Wyoming State Highway 487, heading towards the town of Medicine Bow.
Somewhere on the highway, they came upon a female motorist who had her car disabled after hitting a deer.
The 3 offered the woman a ride and took her to Rock River, where she met up with a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper.
Phelps says he credits rodeo coach Marc Gilkerson for the lessons in courtesy.
“I think anyone would’ve, especially on Marc’s team. Marc’s got us on the straight narrow. I think we all would’ve helped anyone in that situation, the whole team. I think anyone would’ve really, it’s just the right thing to do. She was really nervous, trying to cry on us, but we got her settled down.”
Sometime after the incident, the woman contacted Sheridan College to express her gratitude and on Tuesday night (November 15th), the Northern Wyoming Community College Board of Trustees recognized the three, for their act of heroism.
