Clearmont Town Council Met on Monday, Nov. 18. Mayor Chris Schock talked about the upcoming WAM Winter Conference which will be held January 22-24, 2025. At the conference will be Public Officer Training.

He also gave an update on the Water Street waterline replacement and street repair.

The council discussed the plaque for the 100-year-old Historical Clearmont Jail, describing the history of the jail which was built in 1922. This is being done in partnership with the Clearmont Historical Group. A plaque was purchased by the town and the CHG, and will be placed near the jail on Nov. 21 after the Buffalo Jump Program at the Clearmont Historical Center at 2 p.m. The post that the plaque will be attached to was made by the Clear Creek FFA.

Council members discussed was of honoring Senator Kinskey, who did not run for re-election. Town Clerk Kirstie Auzqui, said that “With him leaving office, we wanted to brainstorm on ideas of how to recognize what he has done for the small communities, especially Clearmont.” She added that they talked about a plaque or a certificate, they even discussed possible naming a street in his honor. One of the ways he helped Clearmont was in finding funding for the town when the water services went down some years ago.

Another item on the agenda was the feral cat problem in Clearmont. Auzqui said that several Clearmont residents have been humanely trapping the cats and relocating them to new homes. One resident asked for help with the funds to spay and neuter cats some of the cats, as she had paid for the surgery out of her own pocket. Auzqui said personally she had relocated 12 adult feral cats.

She said that anyone around the area who would like barn cats to keep the rodent population under control in hay yards and barns can contact her at town hall, 307-758-4465.

The council passed, on third reading, ordinance #123 for the new town water and sewer rates. Here are a few of the new rates.
