Johnson County, due to this summer’s House Draw Fire, qualified for a Federal Fire Mitigation Assistance Grant, according to County Emergency Management Coordinator James Cataline.

Speaking with the county commission at their meeting last week, Cataline said the county qualified for $985,000 in assistance, and explained what the funding is earmarked for.

Cataline said he, Commissioner Bill Novotny, and other officials will form a group to discuss and come up with a plan on how the county will want to spend mitigation funding and then apply for it within the next five months.
