A modification of a Cooperative Law Enforcement Operating and Financial Plan between Sheridan County and the Bighorn National Forest has been ratified by the county commission.
The agreement changes the funding amount and also updates the operating plan for 2025, according to the agreement paperwork.
In the agreement, in effect through the end of December of this year, the Bighorn National Forest will pay the county $10,200 for Sheridan County Sheriff’s Deputies to patrol roads within the Bighorn National Forest for law enforcement.
Deputies will also patrol campgrounds, developed sites, dispersed areas, and recreation sites on National Forest Service Lands within the jurisdiction of Sheridan County.
The purpose of the patrols is to protect forest users from bodily harm or other abuse from any group or individual; prevent damage to public property; prevent vandalism; and prevent damage to government-owned administrative sites.
