The University of Wyoming reports that in late June, UW welcomed a new cohort of educators for its fifth annual Wyoming Teacher-Mentor Corps (WTMC) Summer Mentor Institute.
The session brought together mentors from school districts in Sheridan, Cheyenne, Evanston, Hulett, Powell, and beyond.
According to the university, participants — selected through self- or peer-nomination — joined a 15-month program designed to strengthen mentorship for early-career teachers across Wyoming. The training included two in-person summer institutes, fall retreats, a spring virtual session and ongoing online gatherings.
During the institute, participants focused on five pillars of effective mentoring: teaching and learning, assertive communication, meaningful feedback, work-life balance and relationship building. They also engaged with the Wyoming Mentoring Plan, a statewide framework for mentor support.
From the Sheridan region, Ashley Mines (Big Horn), Sarah Hogan (Sheridan County School District #1), and Megan Garnhart (Sheridan County School District #2) were invited to attend.
