Governor Mark Gordon on Thursday joined President Donald Trump, members of the Wyoming congressional delegation, cabinet officials, and state leaders at the White House as the Trump Administration announced major actions supporting America’s coal industry, energy security, and export capacity. The announcements include federal actions that will preserve operations at Wyoming’s Dave Johnston Unit 3 coal-fired power plant and support expanded opportunities for American coal exports through the Port of Oakland.

Among the actions announced Thursday, the EPA is proposing revisions to a federal implementation plan that would remove an Obama-era mandate requiring closure of Dave Johnston Unit 3 by the end of 2027. The proposal recognizes that closure of the unit is not necessary to meet regional haze requirements and that the area remains in attainment for all national air quality standards.

The Governor said that keeping Dave Johnston Unit 3 online is a positive step for Wyoming workers, Wyoming families and everyone who depends on reliable power, and that as the nation’s leading coal-producing state, Wyoming stands ready to partner with the Trump Administration, industry leaders and transportation providers to meet growing domestic and international demand.
