A hearing to address a number of motions filed by a pro se defendant who is scheduled for trial next week was held Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
On May 26, 2026, a request by Shane Golston to represent himself in his pending case was granted by Fourth Judicial District Court Judge Ben Kirven. The Court also appointed Attorney Anna Malmberg with the Public Defender’s Office as stand-by counsel to assist Golston at trial. Golston was arrested by the Sheridan Police Department on November 23, 2025 and charged with felony theft for allegedly being in possession of a truck that was reported as stolen and misdemeanor hit and run on an unattended vehicle for tearing the bumper off of a vehicle in the Ramada Plaza parking lot with the alleged stolen truck he was driving.
A hearing to address several motions filed by Golston was held Tuesday in District Court before Judge Kirven. A motion to terminate stand-by counsel and proceed to trial pro se was taken under consideration by the Court and Kirven said he’d issue a ruling on the motion soon. The Court denied the defendant’s motions for a change of venue and a continuance of the trial. Judge Kirven said the three-day jury trial will begin Monday, June 15 at 8:15 am. If convicted on the theft charge, Golston faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Also at the hearing, Golston pleaded guilty to the hit and run charge. The guilty plea was not part of a plea agreement. Judge Kirven said sentencing would be held at a later date.
Also from Tuesday’s District Court docket:
On June 1, 2021, 52-year-old Holli Ingalls was sentenced in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan to 2 to 4 years in prison for felony possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine, and felony possession of a controlled substance- heroin, concurrent to one another and suspended in lieu of three years of supervised probation. The drug possession charges were prosecuted as felonies because Ingalls had previously been convicted three times for similar charges.
An order to show cause hearing was held Tuesday in Fourth Judicial Court to address the State’s second petition to revoke Ingall’s probation. Appearing via video from the women’s prison in Lusk, Ingalls admitted to the Court that she did violate her probation when she tested positive for methamphetamine on July 10, 2025.
District Court Judge Ben Kirven revoked Ingall’s probation and imposed the underlying sentence of 2 to 4 years on each of the two drug possession charges. The sentences will run concurrent to one another and concurrent to a sentence Ingalls is currently serving from a case out of Campbell County. Ingalls was given 467 days of credit for time served of presentence confinement.
