The City of Sheridan is accepting applications for its inaugural 2026 Citizen Academy. The academy is a new free nine-week program designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at local government operations.
The first academy will be held from Aug. 12 through Sept. 30 and is open to all Sheridan residents age 18 and older. Led by city staff, the program includes tours, demonstrations and presentations from departments including public works, parks, utilities, police, fire rescue and city administration. The academy will also teach residents how to be more involved with local government.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan City Councilman Steve Brantz said the academy is intended to help residents better understand city services, strengthen relationships between local government and the community and encourage civic engagement.
