Sheridan/Johnson County Unemployment Rates Decrease In April 2026

Unemployment rates for April in Sheridan and Johnson Counties dropped more than the rest of the state.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2026 was at 3.5%, which is down from 3.6% in the month prior, but up from 3.2% in April of 2025.

The US Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2026 was at 4.3%, which is unchanged from March, and up compared to 4.2% in April of last year.

Rates in Sheridan County dropped from 3.5% in March to 2.8% in April, while Johnson County’s rate dropped from 3.3% to 2.7%.

Sheridan County’s new rate is below last year’s rate of 3.1%, while Johnson County’s new rate is higher than last year’s rate of 2.4%.

The Department says rates normally drop around this time of year as milder weather brings seasonal job gains in construction, professional and business services and retail trade.

The lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming for April was in Albany and Crook Counties at 2.5%, while the highest rate was in Niobrara County at 4.6%.

Non-farm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 1,300 jobs from April to April.
