The Buffalo Police Department’s tenth Operation Blue Santa event was another success this past Christmas, according to a recent report given to the Buffalo City Council.
Erika McCarter, with the BPD, talked about this year’s campaign.
Erika and her husband Brian have run the program since 2017, and have seen steady growth in donations and the help they can provide.
Erika said in 2017 they collected $8,500 in donations and have seen growth to this year’s $21,000 in donations.
They were able to help five families with 20 total individuals, and have helped 22 families and 85 individuals since 2017.
The program has been widely applauded and accepted in the community and by the families that have been helped in the past who are stepping up to help now with what she said is a “pay it forward” mentality.
She said growth in the program will mean finding partners to help.
McCarter said the community has been more than generous and they have seen a lot of positive feedback.
