Bill protecting land surrounding veteran facilities moves to second reading in the Senate

March 2, 2022

A bill protecting lands surrounding the State Veterans Home and Skilled Nursing Facility in Buffalo as well as two other sites in the state from commercial mineral development has passed first reading in the Senate.

The bill proposes leasing those state grounds only for the grazing of cattle, so long as the Veterans’ Home of Wyoming and the Wyoming Veterans’ Skilled Nursing Facility exist in the adjacent location.

The bill passed first reading with an amendment stipulating the control of the state lands listed will receive oversight from Wyoming Board of Land Commissioners.

Johnson County Commission Chairman Bill Novotny has been in Cheyenne during the ongoing budget session. During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Novotny updated listeners on the bill’s progress.
