Spring Youth Soccer is in full swing at the Sheridan County YMCA. After a delayed start, the Youth Soccer program is running games outside. Although the weather is finally cooperating, Executive Director Liz Cassiday said they could use more referee volunteers.
Refereeing for the youth programs at the Y are more about reinforcing the spirit of fair competitive play and the values that are learned during competition.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Cassiday told listeners that she has been out refereeing in a few games this year. It’s a duty she enjoys taking part in at the youth program level, giving her an opportunity to help mold the future of competitive sports in the Sheridan region.

Junior High and High School level students can referee at the youth program level, as well as parents and other volunteers. Many of the sports played at this level are introductions to the kids. Teaching them the fundamentals of not just the sport but the spirit of competition.
