News from District Court

At the arraignment, Christina Morlan pleaded not guilty to the charges of endangering children, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver – methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. District Court Judge Darci Philips scheduled a three day jury trial to begin on December 8. A pretrial conference will take place November 6 at 9:30 am. All three of the alleged crimes are felonies and if convicted on all three counts, Morlan faces up to 32 years in prison and fines of up to $45,000.

According to court documents, Morlan was arrested on June 7, 2025, after dispatch received a report of a family dispute in the parking lot of Taco Bell shortly before 6 pm. Shortly after officers with the Sheridan Police Department arrived on scene, it was determined that the fracas involved a vehicle with Washington plates. A female, Morlan, was behind the wheel, a male, 29-year-old Anthony Brower was in the passenger’s seat, and a two-year-old child was in the backseat.

A search of the vehicle yielded various drug paraphernalia and over 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Both Morlan and Brower were placed under arrest and booked into the Sheridan County Detention Center. Brower, in a separate arraignment hearing Thursday, also pleaded not guilty to the same three charges that Morlan was arraigned for. The couple were allegedly transporting the methamphetamine from Washington state to Kansas.

Wyola Woman Changes Plea in District Court

A change of plea hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court for 33-year-old Wahelah Castro of Wyola. Castro, pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement reached with the state, pleaded guilty to the charges of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving. District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered a presentence investigation be completed by the Wyoming Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole and scheduled sentencing for August 28 at 9 am.

The plea agreement recommends a sentence of 2 ½ to 4 years in prison, suspended in favor of an eight month split-sentence followed by three years of supervised probation. Castro has also agreed to pay $10,884 in restitution for the damage caused to law enforcement vehicles prior to her arrest.

Castro was arrested on April 5 for leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase on I-90 that reached speeds in excess of 125 mph.  At one point during the pursuit, Castro crossed the median and was traveling the wrong way, against traffic on the Interstate. Castro was not over the legal limit when she was arrested, but admitted to drinking prior to the high-speed chase.
