Bim Eriksson of Stockholm, Sweden, an artist-in-residence at Ucross was honored with a farewell happy hour on Wednesday, May 27 at The Warehouse Gastropub in Sheridan. Eriksson gained her Ucross fellowship through the EU’s Transatlantic Rising Stars initiative, which fosters artistic exchange and collaboration between European and American artists.
Caitlin Addlesperger, Ucross President and executive director introduced Eriksson at the event. First she thanked Christer and Gina Johansson for hosting the event in their restaurant. She said that they are also celebrating with their current artists in residence in Ucross.
She talked about some the Ucross partners, including the Sundance Film Festival and the University of Wyoming. She explained how they came to offer a fellowship to Eriksson.
She added that Eriksson has spent the last weeks of her residency has integrated in local communities across Northern Wyoming.

She then turned the mic over to Bim Eriksson. Eriksson talked about how she became an artist, and talked how she was awarded the Ucross Fellowship.
She said it was a cold night in Stockholm last November.
Eriksson added that they said she would have an answer before Christmas, but Christmas came and went, but in January, she heard she was one of the ten finalists, and during the interview she felt as something else took over her vocal chords.
She said she felt that all the stars aligned when she heard she had been paired with Ucross. She mentioned her most recent graphic novel, one of the characters is a cowgirl, which was interesting that she was accepted to a residency program in Wyoming.

She talked about an art project that she is doing with Wyoming Poet David Romvedt,

She added that she felt so welcome at Ucross, and she had so many special moments of her stay there.
The Warehouse Gastropub provided a smorgasbord of Swedish-inspired bites curated by Head Chef Jeff Armstrong and Owner Christer Johansson, originally of Trollhättan, Sweden.

Addlesperer then turned the mic over to Johnasson, who invited the crowd to join in a farewell toast to Eriksson.

“As someone who grew up in Sweden, it is meaningful to help welcome a Swedish artist to Sheridan and share a small taste of Swedish culture with our community,” Johansson said. “We are honored to partner with Ucross for this event and to help create a warm, memorable farewell for Bim.”

He shared a Swedish drinking song with the crowd and the staff passed out a piece of paper with the words of the song so the crowd could join in.
A large crowd filled the patio of the Warehouse Gastropub for the event to hear Eriksson and enjoy a slice of Swedish culture.
