An initial probation revocation hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court for a Sheridan man that was convicted of four felonies in 2020. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Sheridan County Attorney Dianna Bennett filed a petition in June to revoke the probation of 27-year-old Austin Potts for allegedly violating the terms and conditions of his probation by being fired from his job and for being unsuccessfully discharged from sex offender therapy. District Court Judge Ben Kirven, at Thursday’s hearing, entered a denial plea on behalf of the defendant and said another hearing would be set once Potts files the paperwork requesting a court appointed attorney.
In 2020, Potts was convicted of two counts of sexual exploitation of children and two counts of second degree sexual abuse of a minor. He was sentenced to serve 5 to 7 years in prison for the sexual exploitation charges, concurrent to one another, and 3 to 6 years for each of the sexual abuse charges, consecutive to one another and suspended in favor of three years of supervised probation to follow his release from prison. Potts will continue to be held without bond at the Sheridan County Detention Center until future proceedings.
