Sheridan’s Civic Theater Guild reports it will begin its 70th season this fall with “Twelve Angry Men.” Auditions will be held 6 – 8 p.m. July 15 and 16, at the Carriage House Theatre at 419 Delphi Ave.
According to the Guild, “Twelve Angry Men” was adapted from the classic 1957 film starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb. The story revolves around a jury deliberating at the end of a murder trial. The twelve men of the jury all have their own preconceived notions and biases that affect their decisions regarding the case. However, they must come to a unanimous decision for a verdict. As they reexamine the case and evidence, tensions rise, and personal views become the driving forces of heated exchanges. The play examines due process, the concept of a fair trial, and the great responsibility that lies with those given the duty to decide.
CTG Board Member and “Twelve Angry Men” Director Jenni Reed explained that her concept suggests that doing the play in this or any time is a, “…snapshot of what it means to be a man in America, and how men currently view the world.”
Reed is seeking 13 to 15 male actors of all ages for a variety of roles. Auditions will include cold readings from the script, with character descriptions provided. Reed emphasizes there’s no need to “become someone else” for the part, noting the jury members are so diverse that most actors will naturally fit a role. “Just be you,” she said.
Performances will run Sept. 12-14, 19-21, and 26-28. For more information or questions, follow up with the Civic Theater Guild at sheridanctg.org, or on their Facebook page and Instagram pages.
